Oakwood increases stream buffer

Oakwood City Council approved an amendment to a stream buffer protection ordinance Monday evening that enacts a 50-foot buffer off stream banks with an additional 25-foot non-negotiable impervious buffer. Before Monday evening, the Oakwood stream buffer ordinance allowed for some design manipulation in the 25-foot impervious buffer, according to Oakwood City Manager Stan Brown.

DOT continues work on Ga. 53, U.S. 129

The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to close one lane of Mundy Mill Road today and Wednesday for paving and striping. Construction crews plan to work on the eastbound lanes today and the westbound lanes on Wednesday. Lanes will alternately be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. around Frontage Road.

Fire officials said high winds reaching 31 mph and low humidity are to blame for the rash of small fires that broke out Sunday afternoon in Northeast Georgia.
