City schools want to delay projects

Oakwood keeps on growing: Planning board approves more land to be annexed

The Oakwood Zoning and Planning Board met Monday evening and approved the annexation of two private properties currently used as residences. The properties are two of more than 100 parcels of land Oakwood has annexed since Jan. 1. The two parcels amount to about two acres.

INK's family day puts priority on play

The celebration featured a variety of family-oriented events such as a magic show, face painting, pottery painting and a live reading of a Dr. Seuss book from State Rep. Doug Collins.

Gainesville man dies in wreck

A 26-year-old Gainesville man was killed Sunday in a single-vehicle wreck on Ga. 60 near the Silverwood subdivision in Hall County. Georgia State Patrol responded to the accident at about 3 a.m. According to the accident report, Adrian Harper, 26, lost control of his vehicle, collided with an embankment and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Harper was not wearing a seat belt, and officials are unsure what caused the wreck. It is unknown at this point if alcohol was involved. Officials are investigating the incident.

Co-directors aim to help people with disabilities

GAINESVILLE - A local organization serving young adults with disabilities has two new co-directors dedicated to improving their quality of life.

In September, Brad Whitmire and Margie Sinclair joined the staff of Our Neighbor Inc., a nonprofit organization that aims to give independence to young adults with physical disabilities.

Fire destroys home in Flowery Branch

The Hall County Fire Department responded to a residential fire at 5:10 p.m. Sunday in the 5000 block of Overby Road in Flowery Branch. Audra Thompson and her 11-year-old daughter were home when the fire began in the garage. Hall County Fire Capt. Scott Cagle said the fire was possibly caused because of combustible items located too closely to the gas water heater. The home is valued at $175,000, and the fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damage. No one was injured in the blaze.
