Newspaper sues city of Gainesville over open records

The Times filed suit Tuesday against the city of Gainesville, claiming city officials have violated the state's Open Records law by refusing to release information contained in a letter tied to the investigation of former city manager Bryan Shuler.

At issue in the Open Records Act case is an anonymous letter sent to the city alleging improprieties by Shuler. The city has refused to release an unedited version of the letter, making available only a copy which had the names of three city employees "redacted," or removed.

Area dogs and their owners gathered at Frances Meadows Aquatic Center Sunday for some fun in the water at the third annual Soggy Doggy Pool Party. Dogs of all sizes splashed around in the pool throughout the afternoon and competed in contests like best game of fetch and best tricks. The canine pool party, sponsored by Gainesville's parks and recreation department, is held each year after the pool closes for the season.
