Thanksgiving in jail: Turkey dinner a nod to holidays

It just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without turkey and dressing - even at the Hall County jail.

The big, 1,026-bed building on Barber Road has more meals served inside it daily than anywhere else in the county, and Thursday, that meal was as traditional as stripes on an inmate's uniform: turkey, dressing, rice, greens and cranberry sauce.

Foster mother indicted in baby’s death

A Jackson County woman who left a 9-month-old foster child unattended in a car has been indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.

Piedmont Judicial Circuit District Attorney Rick Bridgeman on Wednesday announced the indictment against 29-year-old Wendy Osbourne of Nicholson in the Sept. 2 death of baby Jessica Scovil from heat exposure.

Hall divers help search for evidence

Divers from the Hall County Sheriff's Office helped search a pond in Barrow County on Tuesday for evidence in the shooting of two Auburn residents Nov. 15.

The dive team was called to a pond located behind Parks Mill Apartments, according to Auburn Police Chief Fred Brown. That's where an Auburn woman was shot seven times and her boyfriend shot once in the abdomen while they slept in their apartment.

North Hall house fire called suspicious

A fire that destroyed a vacant home Monday night in North Hall is suspicious, officials said.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said firefighters from three stations responded about 10 p.m. Monday to a fire at 8947 Forrester Road off Skitts Mountain Road. The 1,100-square foot woodframe house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Cagle said.
