Deposits on the decline for county banks

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has released its annual deposit market share report for banks. The report shows a decline in Hall County bank deposits for the first time since 2004. Deposits in Hall County banks, as of June 30, totaled $2.57 billion, compared with $2.64 billion on June 30, 2007.

Advocates want to reach more Latino victims of domestic violence

Reaching and connecting with Latino victims of domestic violence is among the greatest challenges facing those who work to provide services for abused women, a discussion panel said Tuesday.

"My concern is too often (help) doesn't reach the Hispanic community," Rosemary Stefanoff, Spanish services coordinator for Gateway Domestic Violence Center, said at the Fourth Annual Domestic Violence Breakfast and Briefing at the Hall County Courthouse. "And we are working on that."

Oakwood presents plan to reshape the way it looks

OAKWOOD -- Oakwood city officials unveiled an ambitious plan Tuesday to reshape 253 acres surrounding the city's downtown center and the yet-to-be-built final leg of Thurmon Tanner Parkway.

"We know we can't do this alone," City Manager Stan Brown said of the Oakwood 2030 plan. "Our job is to cast a vision and steer development in the right direction."
