Lanier Tech student goes to state Student of the Year competition

Exhibit honoring fallen heroes comes to Gainesville

One was a Little League coach for his son's baseball and football teams. Another was a guitarist who recorded his own music. A computer geek, a bicycle racer, a triathlete champion - the diverse list of talents and passions goes on, but these men all had one thing in common: They were Georgia soldiers who gave their lives for America while in combat.

Portraits and stories of 40 soldiers are featured at the Northeast Georgia History Center from now until June 6 in the traveling exhibit, "Art from the Heart: Georgia's Fallen Heroes."

Hall County names interim administrator

Hall County Director of Human Resources Charley Nix will stand in as the interim county administrator after current Administrator Jim Shuler retires June 30, the county commission announced Thursday.

Nix will temporarily hold the position while a national search for a new administrator is conducted and will continue to act as the director of human resources during this time.

Library to open new chapter in Spout Springs

Gainesville school board discusses meeting logistics

The Gainesville City Board of Education explored some internal issues Wednesday morning, including whether an attorney should sit in on board meetings and when to hold closed-door sessions.

The board held the retreat at city school board offices to review procedures, particularly as two of the members - Sammy Smith and Maria Calkins - are beginning their first four-year terms on the board.
