Tech football stars to play Saturday

Five Georgia Tech standouts, running back Tashard Choice, defensive end Darrell Robertson, punter Durant Brooks and linebackers Philip Wheeler and Gary Guyton, are among the top 100 senior NFL draft prospects participating this week at the 2008 Under Armour Senior Bowl. Miami recovers from slow start to beat Tech

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Miami Hurricanes seemed rattled by the arrival of the Atlantic Coast Conference season. They started their league opener slowly and shot poorly, and their best player had a bad game.

Yet the 25th-ranked Hurricanes managed a 78-68 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday. Perhaps the ragged win was an indication they might just be a factor in the conference race.

Tech's new coach announces his staff

ATLANTA - Paul Johnson officially took over as coach of Georgia Tech on Wednesday and announced his entire coaching staff. Johnson named Dave Wommack defensive coordinator. Wommack, the outside linebackers coach at Southern Miss last season, has been coordinator at Arkansas, Southern Miss, UNLV and Southwest Missouri State.

Members of the 2007 Georgia Tech staff comprise the rest of the defensive assistants: line coach Giff Smith, linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and Charles Kelly, who will coach the cornerbacks in 2008. Brian Bohannon will be quarterbacks/b-backs coach, Todd Spencer, co-offensive line coach, and Jeff Monken, slot backs/special teams.
