Top Dawgs: Georgia No. 1 in coaches' poll

Georgia will kick off the 2008 football season as top dawgs in at least one major poll.

The preseason USA Today coaches poll, released this morning, has Georgia at No. 1. SEC rivals Florida and LSU are fifth and sixth. Georgia plays these two teams on back-to-back weekends in October.

Georgia opener on pay-per-view

Comcast / Charter Sports Southeast (Charter channel 37) announced Tuesday it will produce the University of Georgia's first game of the 2008 season against Georgia Southern as a pay-per-view broadcast. Viewers in Georgia can order the August 30 game through their local, participating cable provider for $24.99 prior to the day of the event and $29.99 the day of the game.

Uga VI, the beloved white English bulldog that served as the University of Georgia mascot for nearly a decade, has died, his owner, Sonny Seiler of Savannah said Saturday. He was 9.

Uga was the winningest mascot in the university's history - the football team was 87-27 and won two SEC titles in his tenure.
