Getting to Know: Robert James

At 16-years-old, Robert James was an unhappy cornerback at Maryvale High School in Glendale, Ariz.. In fact, he was so disgruntled he almost walked away from the game during his junior year. But eventually he learned to embrace the defensive side of the ball, and sticking with it has paid off. A fifth-round pick in April's NFL draft, James is now fighting for a spot on the Atlanta Falcons depth chart. He spoke with Times sports editor Brent Holloway recently about his football history, overcoming concussion migraines and his family in Mississippi.

Falcons sign Biermann

FLOWERY BRANCH – The Atlanta Falcons today signed fifth round (154th overall) draft selection, defensive end Kroy Biermann to a four-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Biermann, 6-3, 241 pounds, played in 52 career games at the University of Montana and totaled 220 tackles, 32 sacks (the second most in school history), 45 tackles for loss, nine forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

Former Georgia running back signed to Falcons squad

FLOWERY BRANCH – The Atlanta Falcons today signed sixth round draft pick running back Thomas Brown from Georgia. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.Brown, 5-8, 204 pounds, finished his career at Georgia ranked fifth in school history in the rushing department with 2,646 yards on 529 rushing attempts. Brown's all-purpose total of 3,767 yards is the fourth-best all-time mark in Georgia annals.
