FLOWERY BRANCH - Martrez Milner was moving at real game speed during the opening day of Atlanta Falcons training camp Saturday in Flowery Branch. When the football came in the direction of the Falcons second-year tight end and West Hall High graduate, he latched onto the pass and darted toward the end zone like he was going for a touchdown.
Since 2007 ended, the Falcons have gone out of their way to put the most tumultous year in franchise history in the rear view. The front office shakeup, the overhauled coaching staff, the purging of unhappy veterans and the drafting of what the franchise hopes will be the quarterback of tomorrow were all intended to make certain that the 2008 season marks the beginning of a new era.
The Atlanta Falcons signed second round (37th overall) draft pick, linebacker Curtis Lofton Friday to a four-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Lofton, 6-foot-0, 248 pounds, logged 197 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, three interceptions and one sack in three seasons at the University of Oklahoma. His 157 tackles in 2007 tied for the seventh-best season total in school history and were the most by a Sooner since 1979.
