Lauren Kirk and Corrie Thomas each scored a goal in the second half to lead the No. 7 Flowery Branch girls to a 2-1 victory over Winder Barrow in the Region 8-AAAAA opener on Friday at Falcon Field. Winder-Barrow scored off a corner kick about 15 minutes in and remained ahead 1-0 until the 20-minute mark of the second half, when Kirk scored off a deflected shot by Thomas.

At the plate, the highly-touted MLB draft prospect Adams was 4 for 4 with a single, double and triple. Also for White County (5-0), Will Flowers had a pair of doubles and finished 3 for 4 at the plate.
