Chestatee boys soccer coach Michael Herrin says its program got a great momentum boost out of its 5-2 win against Buford in the Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup on Saturday at War Eagles Stadium. For the first time this season, the War Eagles have won back-to-back games.
Gainesville junior quarterback Blake Sims went to the University of Georgia's Junior Day event on Saturday and came home with an official offer to play for the Bulldogs, says Red Elephants assistant coach Todd Wofford. Sims, who passed for 2,453 yards and rushed for 822 yards in 2008, has picked up some steam on the recruiting trail with big offers from Michigan, West Virginia and Arkansas, to name a few. As recently as Wednesday, Wofford indicated that Sims was high on Michigan's program, through his communication with the school.
FLOWERY BRANCH - West Forsyth's girls soccer team took all the drama out of its top 10 matchup against Class AAA's fifth-ranked Flowery Branch (8-5, 5-2 Area 7-AAA) early on Friday in South Hall. There was no last-minute suspense and no late goal to tip the balance of the outcome. It was just a well-played game on both ends by the No. 9-ranked Lady Wolverines (8-1, 4-1) as they cruised to a 3-1 victory.
Chestatee High principal Bill Thompson will begin a search immediately for a new boys basketball coach after former coach Russ Triaga resigned Thursday from his position he held the past six seasons with the War Eagles. Triaga resigned as Chestatee's coach after accepting an assistant coaching position at Dacula High in Gwinnett County.
DAHLONEGA - Blessed Trinity proved to be a little too much for a young Lumpkin County team to handle Tuesday night at the Burial Grounds. The previously unbeaten Lady Indians fell 4-0 to the Lady Titans in the GHSA Class AAA girls soccer semifinals.

Patience isn't one of Richie Castruita's strong suits. Luckily for West Hall, the junior timed his goal-scoring runs to perfection on two separate occasions to help lead the Spartans (11-1-2) to their second straight appearance in the state semifinals.
JONESBORO - The Buford girls tennis team was unable to cap off their historic season with a championship. The Lady Wolves ended up losing out to Woodward Academy 3-0 on a hot Saturday afternoon in the GHSA class AAAA state championship at the Clayton International Park Tennis Center.

The North Georgia Christian girls soccer program earned its first ever state championship, topping Westminster Christian 1-0 for the Georgia Independent Christian Association Division III title on Friday at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex in Gainesville.
