Golf: Lloyd takes third in AJGA event

BRASELTON - Before this weekend, Jimmy Lloyd was a virtual unknown on the American Junior Golf Association circuit.

Not anymore. Not after his performance at Chateau Elan landed him within one stroke of first place and earned him an automatic berth in an AJGA regular season tournament this summer.

Lloyd tied for lead atop national junior golf field

BRASELTON - Jimmy Lloyd was all smiles as he exited the 18th green Sunday.

Lloyd, one of the 96 competitors from across the country in the Medicus Preseason Junior event at the Chateau Elan Golf Club, finished the opening round with an even par 71, putting him in a first-place tie with Matthew Cahill from Boca Raton, Fla. In the girls division, Kendall Wright of Suwanee put together a 4-under par 67 to grab the early lead.
