South Carolina signee Maria Petroni scored three goals and had two assists for Class AA's No. 3 ranked Lady Wolves (4-1-1, 2-0 Region 6A-AA) in their 5-2 win against Providence Christian on Wednesday night in Buford.
Chestatee High senior nose guard Marshal Paul has signed a letter of intent to play football next year at Charleston Southern University. Paul finished his senior season as a 2007 Times first team All County selection with 78 tackles (31 solo), 11 tackles for a loss, 12 quarterback hurries and three sacks.
FLOWERY BRANCH - Timely hits win ballgames, and for Lakeview Academy's Brett Armour, his hit Wednesday against West Hall came at the perfect time.
With his team trailing 3-1 in the third inning, Armour stepped to the plate and knocked a 2-0 curveball over the fence in left-center field to give the Lions a lead they would not relinquish as Lakeview Academy defeated the Spartans 10-3 during the sixth annual Flowery Branch Invitational.
COLUMBUS – The scores were good for Gainesville's boys, especially when you consider the fast greens and humid air pressing golfers during the Class AAAAA championship meet at the Country Club of Columbus.
Flowery Branch's Jake Shewbert added to his strong performance at the Georgia Olympics, earning a fourth-place spot in the 3200 race with a time of 9 minutes, 44.1 seconds at Jefferson Memorial. Joining him in the race for the Falcons, Grant O'Callaghan was ninth (9:53.29).
DAHLONEGA - Blessed Trinity proved to be a little too much for a young Lumpkin County team to handle Tuesday night at the Burial Grounds. The previously unbeaten Lady Indians fell 4-0 to the Lady Titans in the GHSA Class AAA girls soccer semifinals.
