FLOWERY BRANCH - Led by a precision-based offense that maintained possessions throughout the game, a midfield determined to win every ball and a stonewall-type defense, Region 7-AAA champion, and Class AAA No. 3-ranked, Flowery Branch beat the fourth seed out of Region 5-AAA, and the 14th-ranked team in Class AAA Blessed Trinity 3-0 in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs Thursday night at Falcon Field.
CLEVELAND-Gainesville High's girls golf team witnessed one of its proud traditions continue on Thursday, and another come to a sudden end in the Region 7-AAA championship at Mossy Creek Golf Course in Cleveland.
From across the field, North Hall soccer player Tess Patton can be heard yelling, "through," "play it up," "I'm ready" or, as was the case in a practice scrimmage Monday afternoon at North Hall Middle School, "I know! I (stink)!"
Flowery Branch's Jake Shewbert added to his strong performance at the Georgia Olympics, earning a fourth-place spot in the 3200 race with a time of 9 minutes, 44.1 seconds at Jefferson Memorial. Joining him in the race for the Falcons, Grant O'Callaghan was ninth (9:53.29).
DAHLONEGA - Blessed Trinity proved to be a little too much for a young Lumpkin County team to handle Tuesday night at the Burial Grounds. The previously unbeaten Lady Indians fell 4-0 to the Lady Titans in the GHSA Class AAA girls soccer semifinals.
