Murphy: Early signing period needed for college football

Last-second drama surrounding National Signing Day may be a lot of fun for college football fans to watch but it's entirely unnecessary. Waiting anxiously to see which school an 18-year old football star is going to choose may be the equivalent of a soap opera for grown men, but there's a solution to take all the suspense out of this entirely overhyped process: an early signing period.

Five area teams are ranked in a Georgia high soccer preseason poll released on Both Flowery Branch teams received rankings, with the boys at No. 5 and the girls at No. 10 in Class AAA. The North Hall girls were also included in the Class AAA rankings at No. 4. In Class AA, the Buford girls are ranked seventh, and the Habersham Central boys begin the season ninth in Class AAAA. Soccer season for area teams officially begins Monday.
