Flowery Branch High junior quarterback Connor Shaw made his decision for college early, deciding to commit verbally to South Carolina on Saturday. Shaw picked South Carolina over other offers, including West Virginia, Wake Forest, Stanford and Georgia Tech.

State teams come to Jefferson for annual relays

JEFFERSON - A sporting tradition spanning four decades, the 45th annual Jefferson Relays, takes place beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dragons Stadium with more than 20 track teams from around the state participating. A trophy presentation will take place following the day's final race.

Lumpkin County scored 12 runs in the second inning and finished the game with 13 hits en route to a 15-2 win in five innings against Flowery Branch on Saturday in Dahlonega. Drew Uptegraph (5-0) earned the win for the Indians (14-1, 12-1 Region 7-AAA), allowing only two runs in three innings.
