FLOWERY BRANCH - Prior to the start of the opening game of the 2009 baseball season , Flowery Branch coach Jimmy Lawler filled out his lineup card and scratched his head. He had no idea what his team would be after losing 10 players from last year's team that won the Region 7-AAA championship.
Gainesville High will play host to a football combine for players in eighth-12th grade from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday at the Gainesville High practice field. Cost is $50 and you can register at the combine.
The Chestatee High Olympic Style weightlifting boys and girls teams defended their state titles Saturday. Chestatee's Megan Poole won the 56-kilogram class and was named best lifter. War Eagles lifter Robby Poole won the 77-kilogram boys class and was named best lifter for the boys.
The games will go on for Eagles Landing Christian Academy.
After a confirmed case of swine flu forced the private school in Henry County to close its doors, it seemed that the baseball and track teams might have to withdraw from region and state playoff events. But the Georgia High Schools Association confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the schools' athletes will be allowed to compete.
