Brittany Aikens took first place honors individually, and broke a school record with a 19 minute and 15 second finish, to lead the Jackson County girls' cross country team against Riverside Military Academy on Saturday in Gainesville.

Basketball practice starts this week

The high school basketball season is still weeks away, but teams across the area open practice this week. Many boys programs will be without key players until the conclusion of football season, but that doesn't stop the anticipation for the coming season.

It's gotten to the point where high school athletes have what appears to be total control in the process when it should be the other way around.
