Prep softball: Jefferson rallies for three straight weekend wins

After a pair of losses Friday sent them to the Bronze Division in the South Gwinnett Classic softball tournament, Jefferson stormed back with three wins Saturday to win the bracket.

HOMER - Johnson relied on its rushing attack in a 21-20 scrimmage game win against Banks County Friday in Homer. The Knights' sophomore running back Mantevius Rucker scored two touchdowns on the night, each long carries for more than 30 yards.

Trojans get back to The Brickyard

Friday's scrimmage at the Brickyard will be mostly used as a learning tool for North Hall football coach Bob Christmas. The Trojans coach liked the idea that he'll have plenty of quality film to evaluate against Class AAAAA's Roswell, which has been a top-tier Class AAAAA program in recent seasons, even though it did result in a 21-19 loss.

Flowery Branch enters the season ranked No. 6, while West Hall is ranked No. 9. In softball, defending Class AA champion Buford begins the year as the preseason No. 1, while Jefferson, who also reached the state tournament in 2007, enters the year ranked No. 9 in Class AA.
