The traditional wrestling tournaments are a way for coaches to let wrestlers off the leash and see how they can fare individually. At this point in the season, there's no more strategizing for the sake of a team title. Wrestlers are out for individual glory at this point in the season.
For more than 30 area football players - and several thousands nationwide - today marks the culmination of years of hard work and dedication at the high school level, and the beginning of what they hope will be a prosperous college career.
Last-second drama surrounding National Signing Day may be a lot of fun for college football fans to watch but it's entirely unnecessary. Waiting anxiously to see which school an 18-year old football star is going to choose may be the equivalent of a soap opera for grown men, but there's a solution to take all the suspense out of this entirely overhyped process: an early signing period.
Five area teams are ranked in a Georgia high soccer preseason poll released on Eurosportscoreboard.com. Both Flowery Branch teams received rankings, with the boys at No. 5 and the girls at No. 10 in Class AAA. The North Hall girls were also included in the Class AAA rankings at No. 4. In Class AA, the Buford girls are ranked seventh, and the Habersham Central boys begin the season ninth in Class AAAA. Soccer season for area teams officially begins Monday.

North Hall boys basketball coach Benjie Wood wasn't too interested in hearing excuses from those inside the locker room on why they wouldn't succeed this season. Wood, who has succeeded coaching both girls and boys during his career in Hall County, knew that hard work would more than make up for lack of returning talent on the Trojans roster this season.
DAHLONEGA - Blessed Trinity proved to be a little too much for a young Lumpkin County team to handle Tuesday night at the Burial Grounds. The previously unbeaten Lady Indians fell 4-0 to the Lady Titans in the GHSA Class AAA girls soccer semifinals.

Patience isn't one of Richie Castruita's strong suits. Luckily for West Hall, the junior timed his goal-scoring runs to perfection on two separate occasions to help lead the Spartans (11-1-2) to their second straight appearance in the state semifinals.
JONESBORO - The Buford girls tennis team was unable to cap off their historic season with a championship. The Lady Wolves ended up losing out to Woodward Academy 3-0 on a hot Saturday afternoon in the GHSA class AAAA state championship at the Clayton International Park Tennis Center.

The North Georgia Christian girls soccer program earned its first ever state championship, topping Westminster Christian 1-0 for the Georgia Independent Christian Association Division III title on Friday at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex in Gainesville.
