East Hall High girls coach Joey Rider doesn't need a No. 1 seed in the Region 7-AAA tournament. The second-seeded Lady Vikings (19-7) may have more than enough depth to compensate for its lower spot in the bracket.
JEFFERSON - Zac Crosby didn't see reason to panic in Friday's quarterfinals of the Class AA state sectionals at Jefferson High. Trailing late in the third period, he still had his strategy for victory solid in his mind.
For area basketball teams, both ends of the respective region or subregion spectrums are foregone conclusions. The top teams in the standings will remain there regardless of the outcomes of tonight's, the same can be said for the teams at the bottom.
Wrestlers that qualify for the traditional state championships this season will have truly earned it. Georgia high school wrestling has sharpened its criteria this season for those that hope to advance to the all-classification state meet on Feb. 19-21 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
DAHLONEGA - Blessed Trinity proved to be a little too much for a young Lumpkin County team to handle Tuesday night at the Burial Grounds. The previously unbeaten Lady Indians fell 4-0 to the Lady Titans in the GHSA Class AAA girls soccer semifinals.

Patience isn't one of Richie Castruita's strong suits. Luckily for West Hall, the junior timed his goal-scoring runs to perfection on two separate occasions to help lead the Spartans (11-1-2) to their second straight appearance in the state semifinals.
JONESBORO - The Buford girls tennis team was unable to cap off their historic season with a championship. The Lady Wolves ended up losing out to Woodward Academy 3-0 on a hot Saturday afternoon in the GHSA class AAAA state championship at the Clayton International Park Tennis Center.
