West Hall's boys cross country team finished in second place in the 28-team, all-classification field at the Westover Invitational meet Saturday.
The East Hall JV softball team won the JV softball tournament on Saturday at Chestatee and North Hall.
Jefferson has the inside track to the Region 8-AA title after its 47-20 win against Riverside Military (4-2, 3-2) on Friday night in Jefferson. The Dragons are looking for the first region title for the school since 1977. It's been noted that Jefferson (6-0, 5-0) is dangerous on offense, hard-hitting on defense, and takes advantage of any opportunity it's given.
Johnson was unable to pick up its first subregion win, falling 43-7 to Creekview on Friday in Canton.
ATHENS -- Third-ranked Athens Academy defeated Commerce 19-13 on Friday night at Slaughter Field in their third consecutive victory over the Tigers.
The victory was the Spartans' sixth in the last eight years over Commerce.

Class AA's top-ranked Buford High softball team opened the Region 6-AA tournament with a 5-2 win against Greater Atlanta Christian on Thursday in Norcross.

BUFORD - Tony Wolfe does his best to avoid dwelling on the streak.
John McCrary compiled a 236-94-6 record during his 20-year career as head coach of the Lumpkin County High wrestling program from 1986-2006. His wrestlers won seven individual state titles during that time, including a pair of two-time state champions, and he led the team to a state-runner up finish in 2001.
The East Hall community might be the most unique in Hall County.
