The North Hall boys tennis program advanced to the state quarterfinals with a hard-fought 3-2 win against Eagle's Landing in the second round of the Class AAAA state tournament Tuesday in McDonough. With the win, the Trojans will visit Cartersville in the state quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The hot start Gainesville High's girls tennis team got off to on Tuesday at Longwood Park as it battled McIntosh High in the second round of the state playoffs was exactly what it was looking for. But, the Lady Red Elephants would eventually fall to the Lady Chiefs 3-2.
Breana Fair scored a hat trick, and Alyssa Turner added two goals for the Gainesville girls in a 7-0 win against North Hall on Friday at City Park Stadium. Carolina Nabb and Margaret Carpenter both notched a goal apiece for the Lady Red Elephants.
Gainesville High senior Spencer Ralston is now tied for 37th place after shooting a 1-over par 73 in Friday's second round of the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club in Graniteville, S.C. After two rounds, the Red Elephant stands at 7-over par.
Area football coaches are largely pleased after the executive committee of the Georgia High School Association passed a proposal this week which allows high school football teams to play spring games against each other beginning in 2017.
