Little left unknown in Region 7-AAA

Now is the point in the high school football season where we experience a little bit of a lull. Some teams are already gearing up for the playoffs and the opportunity to play host to first round opponents. Other teams are counting down the days until basketball season begins.

BUFORD - The scores, the stats and everything else said Friday would be an easy night at Tom Riden Stadium. And it was.

Buford High's football team continued its drive toward another region championship with a calm, almost effortless 58-0 victory over Cross Keys. The top-ranked Wolves (9-0, 7-0 Region 6-AA) scored on their first six offensive possessions while limiting the Indians (0-8, 0-6) to 5 yards of total offense while registering three interceptions - one for a touchdown - and a safety. State volleyball tourney opens today in Atlanta

Beginning at 9 this morning, four teams from Region 7-AAA will begin competing for a state title in the Class AAA state volleyball tournament held at Riverwood High and Westminster, both located in Atlanta.

West Hall, the No. 3 seed out of Region 7-AAA, will take on Harris County, the No. 2 seed out of Region 2-AAA at Riverwood High at 9 a.m.

Prep football: White County 28, East Hall 7

CLEVELAND - White County's playoff hopes stayed alive with a 28-7 win against East Hall Friday night in Cleveland. The Warriors (5-3, 2-1 Region 7A-AAA) are in a three-way tie for the second playoff spot in the subregion with Chestatee and Lumpkin County.

White County owns the tie-breaker advantage over Chestatee with a 35-21 win last week. The Warriors conclude the regular season on Nov. 9 at Lumpkin County.

Prep football: Gainesville 34, Johnson 18

Gainesville's offense has received most of the credit for the Red Elephants' first five wins, so Friday night it was the defense's turn.

The Red Elephants' defense forced two turnovers and held down Johnson's running game in the second half for a 34-18 win at Billy Ellis Memorial Stadium. The win gives Gainesville the lead in the chase for the playoffs in Region 7B-AAA.
