Local notebook: Trojans slashing record books

North Hall High's regular season is indicative of all the regular season records the Trojans (10-0) broke on their way to the Region 7-AAA championship. It marks their third region title in the past four years (2004, 2006 and 2007).

Girls basketball: Wheeler gives nod to Gamecocks

East Hall High senior Sada Wheeler has made a big decision for her future and decided she is going to play basketball at the University of South Carolina. Wheeler was at the Columbia, S.C. campus over the weekend to give her verbal commitment, and it set to sign her letter of intent on Wednesday at East Hall.

"It's very exciting to make this decision and have the pressure of recruiting out of the way," Wheeler said. "I think it's going to take a lot of pressure off of me so I can enjoy my senior season."

Trojans still perfect

The Chestatee fans that clogged Ledan Road, packed the school's parking lots and jammed the stands of War Eagle Stadium wanted to see an upset.

What they saw instead Friday night was North Hall putting the final touches on its unblemished masterpiece of a regular season.

After all the muck and mire of the Region 7-AAA subregion season, everyone finally knows that North Hall is numero uno. The Trojans (10-0) were forced run the table this season in order to win the region title.

Prep football: White County 32, Lumpkin County 7

For the first time since 2001, White County will take part in postseason play.

"We won the games we had to win," said White County coach Gregg Segraves. "Chestatee, East Hall and Gilmer, we kind of went through the motions, but we had to put it together tonight and I thought we did that."

Prep football: Flowery Branch 41, West Hall 7

OAKWOOD - Five miles separates West Hall and Flowery Branch high schools. That, plus 34 points and a Class AAA playoff berth.

The Falcons put on a show Friday night as they tuned up for their third-straight state playoff appearance. Jaybo Shaw threw four touchdown passes and ran for another in the first half as Flowery Branch (9-1, 4-0 Region 7B-AAA) ended the regular season with a 41-7 victory over West Hall at Spartan Field.

Prep football: Trojans vying to stay No. 1, Chestatee looking for playoff spot

The numbers North Hall has put up so far this season are incomparable.

The undefeated Trojans (9-0, 4-0 7A-AAA) are averaging 50.6 points per game, 447.1 yards per game and have scored more than 40 points in eight of their nine wins.

Post season play or post season off?

There are two certainties going into tonight's matchup between White County and Lumpkin County in Dahlonega.

The Indians (5-4, 2-2) are not going to the playoffs and if Lumpkin County gets a win tonight on its home turf, the Warriors (6-3, 3-1) aren't going to the post season either.
