FLOWERY BRANCH - Flowery Branch brought an end to its search for a boys basketball coach Sunday when Duke Mullis was tabbed to take over with the Falcons.
Mullis, who has a career record of 317-150, has coached at Brentwood High School, Middle Georgia College, Chattahoochee High School and most recently served as the head coach of West Forsyth last season.
North Hall's Josh Wright has, what he likes to refer to as, a bulldog mentality on the mound. It's his inner confidence that the opposition isn't going to be able to score when the ball is in his hand.
Flowery Branch senior Patrick Henry went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run, two doubles and four RBIs in a 10-0 win against West Hall on Friday night in Oakwood. With the win, the Falcons (18-2, 14-2 Region 7-AAA) extended their current win streak to 10 games dating back to a loss at Gilmer on March 24.

FLOWERY BRANCH - On a cloudless day on courts at two Flowery Branch locales, Sterling on the Lake and Alberta Banks Park, tennis teams from Region 7-AAA began their bids for not only a region title but, also, a state playoff berth.
It began with two goals by Lady Falcons' sophomore forward Lindsay Porter in the first half and ended with a bang off the foot of senior defender DeLana Thomas who, on a direct kick with two minutes left in the game, gave Flowery Branch its fifth and final goal in a 5-2 win over Chestatee on Tuesday at Chestatee.

Whether they're striding or limping into this week's first round of the state playoffs, the area's girls soccer teams will find hard matchups across the board. With winning streaks in hand, Gainesville, Buford, Chestatee and Lumpkin County are all riding the highs of their recent success. Dawson County will have to hope recent injuries don't hamper them in a fascinating 2 vs. 3 seed matchup on Thursday, while East Hall is starring in its first ever state playoff appearance.
