GAINESVILLE - Gainesville High's lone senior Abby Musselwhite was prepared to play in Saturday night's Region 7-AAA title game as part of a program that has played for the region crown the past 12 seasons in a row.
HIAWASSEE - When they met during the regular season, the Lakeview Academy Lady Lions were able to make eight 3-pointers in an overtime win against Social Circle. During their postseason meeting, the Lady Lions weren't so fortunate.
East Hall's boys basketball team is used to the stakes getting progressively higher this time of the year. This is the point in the season when the next game is always most important for the Vikings (21-5).
For the third consecutive season, the Lady Trojans (18-9) qualified for the state playoffs with a 45-37 victory against Pickens. With the win, North Hall advances to the tournament semifinals against East Hall at 4 p.m. Friday at Gainesville.

The Riverside Military Academy basketball team lost in the semifinals of the Georgia Independent Schools Association Region North AAA tournament 70-53 to Mount Vernon on Thursday night in Sandy Springs.

CUMMING - Thanks to a fourth quarter in which Gainesville held Chestatee to only five points, the Class AAA No. 7-ranked Lady Red Elephants were able to beat Chestatee 56-39 and secure a spot in the Class AAA state playoffs and a matchup with the winner of today's Lumpkin County-Gilmer game in the region tournament semifinals.
BOGART- On Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Lions (12-10), the No. 2 seed from the North subregion, beat the third seed from the South subregion Athens Christian Academy (10-12) 42-27 in the quarterfinals of the Region 8-A tournament at Prince Avenue Christian to capture a spot in the state tourney.

Jonathan Gettys recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed just a pair of hits for Gainesville in a 6-2 win against Greenbrier to open the Class AAAAA state championship series in Evans. Game 2 will begin at 6 p.m.
After Gainesville wrapped up its state semifinal sweep of Jones County last week, athletic director Wayne Vickery leaned back against the rail on the steps overlooking Ivey-Watson Field, where he won five state titles as the school's baseball coach.
ROSWELL - For the first time in program history, the Jefferson Dragons' baseball team played for a state championship on Saturday at Blessed Trinity. The problem was, they were playing the defending Class AAA state champions, the Blessed Trinity Titans.
FAYETTEVILLE - Buford baseball coach Tony Wolfe got the icewater bath when it was all said and done Saturday night. At the same time, Wolves catcher Joey Bart was crouched down, holding tight to his team's shiny state championship trophy.
The top-ranked Buford baseball program will play for the Class AAAA state championship against Whitewater, starting with a doubleheader in the best-of-three championship series at 5 p.m. Saturday in Fayetteville.

Dawson County's Madison Caldwell shot a 73 to win the Class AAA girls golf individual state title Monday at Horseshoe Bend in Roswell. Caldwell beat out second place finisher Clara Halsey of Sonoraville. The Dawson County girls finished seventh as a team with a score of 298. In addition to Caldwell's 73, Sydney Morgan shot a 103 and Hannah McConnell shot a 122 for the Lady Tigers. The Dawson County boys shot a 343 to finish seventh at the state tournament. David Ford led the way with an 81.
COLUMBUS – The scores were good for Gainesville's boys, especially when you consider the fast greens and humid air pressing golfers during the Class AAAAA championship meet at the Country Club of Columbus.
