Region 7-AAA used to be a fairly predictable region when it came to football. The same cluster of teams would lay claim to the four playoff spots more often than not. Even when the subdivided region came into play in 2006 things didn't change all that much.
East Hall quarterback Desmon Gardner scored on a quarterback sneak from the 1-yard line to give the Vikings a 33-26 win in double overtime over Gilmer and their first win of the season on Friday night in Ellijay.
Gardner led the Vikings (1-3) to victory with two touchdown runs (8 and 1 yard). East Hall's quarterback also threw an 80 yard touchdown pass to senior Kiante Young. Gardner finished the game with 250 yards passing. Young had 100 yards receiving.
The Banks County football team defeated Rabun County 35-6 on Friday night in Tiger.
Justin Beasley led the way for Banks County (2-2, 2-1 8-AA) with 177 yards rushing and three touchdowns as well as a 40-yard reception. Leopards quarterback Chris Porter completed six passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Kane Duncan also added a pair of catches for 17 yards and a touchdown. Bill Redmon intercepted a pass late in the game and returned it for a touchdown.
