North Hall's Josh Wright has, what he likes to refer to as, a bulldog mentality on the mound. It's his inner confidence that the opposition isn't going to be able to score when the ball is in his hand.
Flowery Branch senior Patrick Henry went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run, two doubles and four RBIs in a 10-0 win against West Hall on Friday night in Oakwood. FLOWERY BRANCH - On a cloudless day on courts at two Flowery Branch locales, Sterling on the Lake and Alberta Banks Park, tennis teams from Region 7-AAA began their bids for not only a region title but, also, a state playoff berth.
It began with two goals by Lady Falcons' sophomore forward Lindsay Porter in the first half and ended with a bang off the foot of senior defender DeLana Thomas who, on a direct kick with two minutes left in the game, gave Flowery Branch its fifth and final goal in a 5-2 win over Chestatee on Tuesday at Chestatee.
As Madison Caldwell walked the fairway at Horseshoe Bend Country Club in Roswell, the Dawson County senior doubled over in the pain that she was feeling in the right side of her stomach, taking the breath out of her lungs for a second or two.
Gainesville High senior Spencer Ralston earned second place, behind a strong third-round 67, at the Georgia Junior Championship on Wednesday in Augusta. Ralston, the Class AAAAA Golfer of the Year, finished the 54-hole, three-day outing with a total score of 8-under (208).
