Prep football: Trojans vying to stay No. 1, Chestatee looking for playoff spot

The numbers North Hall has put up so far this season are incomparable.

The undefeated Trojans (9-0, 4-0 7A-AAA) are averaging 50.6 points per game, 447.1 yards per game and have scored more than 40 points in eight of their nine wins.

Post season play or post season off?

There are two certainties going into tonight's matchup between White County and Lumpkin County in Dahlonega.

The Indians (5-4, 2-2) are not going to the playoffs and if Lumpkin County gets a win tonight on its home turf, the Warriors (6-3, 3-1) aren't going to the post season either.

Uhaa and Dearybury, cadets at Riverside Military Academy, have earned the highest respect of the administration through a résumé of exemplary personal conduct and achievements each has assembled since entering as seventh graders at the private military school in Gainesville.

Football: Power Ratings

At the end of Week 10 the Hall County football players have created the following power ratings. As the season goes on I take into consideration the following criteria: 1) Head-to-head competitions, 2) win/loss record, 3) ratio of points scored vs. points allowed and 4) opponents win/loss percentage.

Football: Water restrictions leave fields dry

At the Atlanta Falcons complex in Flowery Branch, the practice fields are as lush and green as ever, showing few signs of the drought that is ravaging lawns across Northeast Georgia. Just across the street, a distance of just a few football fields away, Flowery Branch High's Falcon Field tells a different story.

The grass there is withering, brown and dying - if not already dead.

Standard for playoff qualifying would help

This time of the season all the talk is about the playoffs. Who's in, and who's out? In Region 7-AAA, we're pretty close to knowing who is going to the playoffs. North Hall (9-0), Flowery Branch (8-1) and Gainesville (7-3) are all in. White County and Chestatee are battling for the last spot. Most people can agree that it's tough to earn a playoff spot in our region here at home.

My brother, my keeper

After a rain-soaked practice last week, Gainesville High senior wide receiver Gerald Ford, who in this season has amassed 1,213 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns, made his way to his locker in the football fieldhouse, his cleats tracking mud on the linoleum floor.
