BRASELTON - Jimmy Lloyd was all smiles as he exited the 18th green Sunday.
Lloyd, one of the 96 competitors from across the country in the Medicus Preseason Junior event at the Chateau Elan Golf Club, finished the opening round with an even par 71, putting him in a first-place tie with Matthew Cahill from Boca Raton, Fla. In the girls division, Kendall Wright of Suwanee put together a 4-under par 67 to grab the early lead.
West Hall High's Will England likes to think of the Medicus Preseason Junior event that starts Sunday at Chateau Elan as a shootout. The Hall County champion will be pitted against 32 other golfers from Georgia, and 96 players in all, representing 14 different states playing in this weekend's two-day event.
