The anticipation for the start of the high school football season is particularly high this season. That's a credit to coaches, players and teams that have turned football in Northeast Georgia into some of the best in the state.
BUFORD - With only four returning starters off the Class AA state championship team in 2008, the Buford High football team of this season seems remarkably unchanged. To be more precise: they are still completely dominating.
Jefferson High senior pole vaulter Tyler Porter earned a national rank by becoming one of seven athletes in state history to break the 16-foot mark with a vault of 16-1 at a competition earlier this month. Porter is a back-to-back state champion at the Georgia Olympics, including a new Class A record of 14-2 as a sophomore, followed by a 15-0 last season in Class AA.
