Flowery Branch junior quarterback Connor Shaw picked up an official scholarship offer from South Carolina on Wednesday. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier and quarterback coach G.A. Mangus flew in to Gainesville and drove down to Flowery Branch to meet with Shaw and his father and Falcons coach Lee Shaw. Connor now has official scholarship offers from the Gamecocks, Georgia Tech and Stanford. Shaw had quite an impressive junior season leading Flowery Branch to the Class AAA state title game.

FLOWERY BRANCH - While Flowery Branch High School will be located down the street on Spout Springs Road at the start of the 2009 school year, the Falcons will remain at home in Class AAA and Region 7. At least for one more year.
They can be creative, loud and supportive. They can be expressive, humorous and sometimes borderline offensive. And while they are not actually allowed to step foot on it, student sections can often have a large impact on the basketball court.
Gainesville junior Spencer Ralston fired a blistering second-round 66, and the Red Elephants rallied to beat Marist by one shot at The Invite on Saturday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville. Over 36 holes, Gainesville finished at 573, Marist 574 and Lee Scott Academy placed third 582.
Caleb Whitenton's home run in Game 1 was just the energy boost seventh-ranked Gainesville needed Friday as it completed a two-game sweep of Cambridge in the opening round of the Class AAAAA state tournament at Ivey-Watson Field in Gainesville.
Tim Gale hasn't yet figured out who will make up his starting 11 as West Hall progresses further through the state playoffs. As long as the Spartans keep pulling out wins, however, he'll have a while to tinker with his lineup.
Senior striker Leo Toledo scored eight goals as the fourth-ranked Vikings defeated Jefferson 11-3 in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs. Carlos Castrejon, Ruben Ramirez and Oskar Mejia also scored to lead East Hall into the second round, where the team will travel to Jackson High School on Wednesday.
