Area football players earn honors

Four area schools were represented on the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-Choice Team for the 2008 football season. The group is led by Flowery Branch's Izaan Cross, who was named Defensive Player of the Year. Teammates Daniel Drummond and Billy Thompson were also named to the team. Gainesville has four players on the team in Blake Sims, Tai-ler Jones, Phillip Gaines and Josh Jackson. Chestatee's Chase Vasser and White County's Tasi Suaava were also named to the team.

Dawson County's Caldwell wins Class AAA girls golf championship

Dawson County's Madison Caldwell shot a 73 to win the Class AAA girls golf individual state title Monday at Horseshoe Bend in Roswell. Caldwell beat out second place finisher Clara Halsey of Sonoraville. The Dawson County girls finished seventh as a team with a score of 298. In addition to Caldwell's 73, Sydney Morgan shot a 103 and Hannah McConnell shot a 122 for the Lady Tigers. The Dawson County boys shot a 343 to finish seventh at the state tournament. David Ford led the way with an 81.
