Last Friday night I saw as good an athletic contest as I have seen or participated in. In my 28 seasons coaching, I had the opportunity to coach only two or three games which were as good as the one I saw when Flowery Branch and North Hall met at the Brickyard.

The Buford High softball team shut out Sonoraville 5-0, 9-0 during their first round Class AA state playoff series on Tuesday in Buford. With the win, the Lady Wolves (19-4) play host to the winner of the Heard County-Walnut Grove series in the second round on Friday in Buford.

CLEVELAND - With his team leading 6-0 in Game 1 against White County, Ridgeland coach Scott Harden decided to pull his starting pitcher Jessie Forrester to save her arm for Game 2, and possibly Game 3.
There's no change at the top in this week's Associated Press High School football polls. The top team in each classification, including Gainesville in Class AAA, held on to their No. 1 ranking for the second straight week.

With only one lifetime home run on her resume, White County junior Stephanie Satterfield was surprised when she hit a grand slam in the Warriors' 8-0 win over Lumpkin County on Thursday in the Region 7-AAA tournament at Lanier Point Park.
North Hall's football program is building a pretty good reputation of winning football games when the other team needs a field goal in the final seconds. The Trojans beat Perry in the state quarterfinals two years ago and Hart County last year in the first round of the playoffs under the same scenario at The Brickyard.
OAKWOOD - As the ball landed incomplete in West Hall's end zone to end the game, several Johnson and West Hall players laid on the ground, some disappointed, some relieved, and all exhausted from another Battle of Oakwood.
