Will candidates deal on the sly to feed moon colony?

It's obvious that Newt Gingrich has made a deal with Rick Perry. Newt promised Perry that Perry would go down in history if he would drop out and endorse Gingrich.

Even with a ‘no’ vote on sales tax, we’ll have to pay

Those that will profit off of the transportation SPLOST want to educate the public on why you should vote "yes." But what about the little guy paying all the costs?

Commissioners saved residents from Oakwood

Thank heaven for the good sense and activism of the Hall County commission who truly make an attempt to represent the residents of Hall County. Anyone who has ever had any dealings with the city of Oakwood knows how devious it is.

State should not erase DUI violations with proposed bill

Rep. Rusty Kidd's DUI legislation ("Bill could offer 2nd chance after DUI charge," Sunday's Times) is the wrong bill at the wrong time.

Obama needs to be defeated if our nation is to be great again

We're now entering the last year of President Barack Obama's term as chief executive of our nation. This upcoming presidential campaign is not going to be a pleasant one.

Plan to ruin US goes against our nation’s founders

I have often wondered what it would take to bring this country down short of a military invasion. These are some of the things that came to mind.

Real courage can be found in King’s struggle

In your Jan. 18 edition, Michelle Crawford gives her kudos to Fred Chitwood for his courage in assailing the character of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Beyond labels, both liberal and conservative ideas have their purpose

In response to Alan Shope's "America, let's embrace our true liberal soul (Jan. 6):"

Letter on birthdays correct on how we ignore true heroes

Kudos to Fred Chitwood for having the courage to write about honoring someone of questionable background with a national holiday while virtually ignoring the birthday of a great American military leader. And congratulations to The Times for having the guts to run his letter.

Pay sent home by immigrants is strong, effective foreign aid

It seems to me that the portion of their pay that the Mexican immigrants send home, to their own families, in their own villages, is the best foreign aid program that the United States has. No bureaucrat in D.C. or Mexico City intervenes. Women and children get the money. That is good for everyone.

Columnist’s views are welcomed

Dear Joan King: You have many detractors, but I am certainly not among them. Yours is a voice of reason in an ocean of insanity. While I do not always agree with you, your points are well thought-out and presented. Keep up the good work. We need you.

Area residents helped contribute to Operation Christmas Child

Thanks to the generous efforts of Gainesville residents, thousands of hurting children worldwide will have the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas.

Celebrations of historic birthdays don’t match up

This month we observe the birthday of two famous American men. Since it is no longer politically correct to study truth in history, it is only fair and honest for someone to make a comparison of the two individuals in question. I will make a description and you decide the identity of these two men.

Choosing our time of exit is selfish, wrong

Joan King's column about the "right to choose one's death" published Tuesday was irresponsible and reckless. To say that I was taken aback and disgusted is a gross understatement. Ms. King writes some outrageous articles, but this one topped them all.

Your Views: New red light is not designed to ease traffic

Wal-Mart's new store on Thompson Bridge might have friendly words "Neighborhood Market" on its sign, but "Neighborhood Racket" would be a better name. A racket is an organized immoral activity for extortion; a dishonest scheme, trick, business or activity.

Your Views: A Memorial Day tribute: ‘Vessels’ made everything possible for us

To the families of military veterans, men and women from every branch of the United States military and Merchant Marines on whose shoulders we now stand tall: We pause to remember that they paid the ultimate price for our freedom in country, community and family, safety and security.

Your Views: Cure for deadly disease that kills on highways is within our reach

Can you imagine what this country would do if confronted with a disease that caused 32,000 deaths in 2013 and 450 deaths so far this year in Georgia? We would expect all levels of government to mobilize, demanding billions of dollars to find a cure and a plan for prevention.

Your Views: Traffic lights should not be placed to benefit a single business

It was sad to read about the recent installation of Wal-Mart's new traffic light on Thompson Bridge Road. One could infer from our mayor's comments that he held strong objections to the installation of Wal-Mart's light. Our city's traffic issues hold precedence with the Department of Transportation over private businesses regarding placement of traffic lights.

Your Views: Series on foster child care opened eyes to a serious issue

On more than one occasion, I have taken pen to paper to offer my criticism of your newspaper. It is expected that we subscribers will do that. When a newspaper does something that I feel is commendable, I will also offer my praise as well as extending my subscription another quarter.
