Rebellious nature doesn’t reflect America’s values

I would like to encourage Americans to stop blaming the president for our financial problems but he alone is not the problem. As a country, America has gotten away from that which it was founded upon and it has opened the door for us to be a rebellious nation in the sight of God.

Young people not as willing to work hard to get ahead

There is still a very high percent of people unemployed. But let's take a much closer look at the situation.

Law keeps Hall residents from working on vehicles

Hall County needs money so it passed a law so they can legally rob money from the poor. They know most of us have old classic cars we work on to show off and drive. So they drum up this law to take away our rights and rob from us, though we are barely making it.

Education not a top priority in Ga.

Congratulations to Richie Fearn for putting "the real Deal" in perspective. The devil is in the details.

Politicians try to get ahead by talking in circles

Are you ready? We are about to be deluged with doublespeak, and I believe the vilest election campaign we have ever witnessed.

Obama should stop pointing fingers at others

I want to give a shout of amen in response to a recent letter where the writer encourages President Barack Obama to stop blaming President George W. Bush for our problems.

Privatization of county services leads to questions

Here are my concerns about this whole idea of the privatization of Hall County services.

Attacks on tea party unfounded, and debt debate proved it right

Yesterday's television coverage reported a poll showing that 47 percent of those polled were displeased with the tea party. I have to ask why.

Quit blaming Bush for all of Obama’s failures

I am responding to Adele Kushner's typically liberal, "blame Bush" letter on Thursday. While some of her "facts" are correct, some are not.

Letter distorts how Christians should treat the poor

This letter is in response to William P. Clark's highly offensive "God made the poor that way so we shouldn't do anything to help them" letter ("People of faith shouldn't give in to wealth envy," Friday).

Economy was much stronger, debt lower during Clinton years

If you are old enough to be on Medicare, you should remember the glory days when the U.S. economy was flourishing. The treasury had a positive balance, a comfortable surplus and good times were ahead.

Tenure or no, teachers need to be held fully accountable

How about a hometown view regarding teacher predicaments. After reading the rebuke in The Times (Saturday) for how the current wave of change in public education is affecting teachers, it is obvious the teachers and the two professors who contributed to the article are more concerned about the senior union member teachers and those who have tenure as they obviously do.

Why was extra job title piled on to Hall’s public safety director?

Recently, the news from the Hall County Board of Commissioners has been interesting.

People of faith shouldn’t give in to wealth envy

I am writing in reference to Alan Shope's latest politico-religious letter, "Rich politicians, preachers spend too much while others suffer."

Your Views: Legality of assisted suicide in Montana remains in the courts

I disagree with Joan King that assisted suicide, which she refers to by the euphemism "aid in dying," is legal in Montana.

Your Views: Islamic State proving to be no ‘JV squad’

Never in our history has our commander in chief been more concerned about telling our enemies what he's not going to do rather than taking the advice of his experienced defense and military advisers.

Your Views: Why should tax money go to fix up mall?

Did I really read that correctly? Are Hall County and Gainesville really considering giving taxpayers' monies to spruce up Lakeshore Mall? (story here)

Your Views: Automated essay scoring could lead to high-tech ways to fool it

As a writing teacher at UNG, I spend a great deal of time during the summer and into August thinking about the incoming group of students I will be closely working with during the fall semester. Currently, I have been thinking a lot about how much of my students' writing has been graded by a computer and not a human, an unfortunate reality in this era of high-stakes testing.

Your Views: Blue Cross, Health System need to work out a deal to benefit all

It is beyond my understanding the disagreement going on between Blue Cross Blue Shield Georgia and Northeast Georgia Health System. (story here) This sounds to me like there is a personality problem somewhere. If both parties are committed to reaching an agreement, I suggest starting negotiations with new people.

Your Views: Judge Jolliff has served well

I would like to tell Judge Cliff Jolliff how much I appreciate and respect him. Having been in his court a few times, I could see his main concern was the welfare of the children involved in all court cases. I could also see how difficult it was for him to deal with many difficult custody cases. I would not want to have that responsibility for any amount of money.

Your Views: Carson may be the healer nation needs

I have seen many decades roll by like a flash in my lifetime. As I reflect on them, I can't remember a time when we were in such dire need of leadership. If we continue to travel the road we are now traveling our destination is doom.

Your Views: Ice bucket challenges could do more harm in the long run

I saw the pictures in Tuesday's paper (Aug. 19) depicting Brenau University participating in the ALS ice bucket challenge. I was very upset to see this type of behavior being promoted as a fundraiser by ALS or Brenau.

Your Views: Who can pray? Everyone can

We shouldn't be told when and where we can pray. If a person doesn't like it, then they should stay home. We Christians also have our right to pray. God runs this world, not a few people who do not believe in God.

Your Views: Planning group seems a waste

Why do we have a Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization? Anyone should know you can't take funding from one road project to another. Does this group do anything to help get roads improved? I see this group as a waste of money and time.

Your Views: Environmental groups trump up fears over energy

Was Bruce Vandiver's letter last week in The Times a scare tactic? I don't know. I do know that environmentalists often employ such tactics.
