Your Views: Better nutrition for children now means a healthier military later

As we remember the many sacrifices of our military this Veterans Day, we should also consider the upcoming generation and what our nation can do to help ensure our long-term national security.

Your Views: Americans, it's time to unite and ‘be the people’ again

Recently, I was at the National Archives and saw the hand-printed documents our country was founded upon. I cannot describe to you the emotion, the sense of honor and respect, the call to duty that seeing those frail papers firsthand produces in each and every heart.

Your Views: US will go the way of Rome

America has become Rome, and there is no doubt that we will suffer the same fate.

Your Views: Our nation has lost its way

Today, America is a lost nation. Lost by its own will, lost by turning its back on God, lost in itself.

Your Views: Free markets don’t provide best health care

While the middle-class economy, Social Security, the environment and various other justice issues are of grave concern, the primary issue for me in this election was health care.

Your Views: Fire insurance cost rises without new Hall station

I received a letter from my insurance company today; they are canceling my homeowners policy, and before you jump to conclusions, I pay my premiums on time. No, this has to do with a fire rating in my area.

Your Views: Ceremony honoring Korean War vets was touching, appreciated

This is for the families of fallen heros of the Korean War and from Hall County: The Korean Vets Memorial that was unveiled Saturday at Rock Creek Veterans Park was a very touching program. The Korean Veterans of Georgia are to be commended for their dedicated and hard work and for their vision in remembrance.

Your Views: Charter school option should stay at local level

We must be clear that a no vote on constitutional amendment No. 1 regarding charter schools is not a vote against charter schools. It's a vote in support of the ability of our locally elected and accountable Hall County school officials to make those local public charter school decisions. Public charter schools are already in existence in Hall County and are an important offering to our community.

Your Views: A ‘thank you’ from family of honored Korean War veteran

I would like to thank everyone who put their time and effort into erecting the Korean War Memorial, which is slated to be dedicated on Saturday. My uncle, Howard Donald O'Kelley, is one of the men to be honored. He was killed on May 19, 1951. He was only 20 years old at the time. I never knew him, but he is and always will be remembered by our family.

Your Views: Letter on ‘moral differences’ is embarrassing to Democrats

Thank you for publishing an opinion by Eugene Elander from Dahlonega in The Times Friday ("Election choice should not be about morality.") By doing so, you have demonstrated your belief in the First Amendment to our Constitution.

Your Views: Obama did nothing over Libyan attacks, turns his back on God

We are now only a couple of weeks away from a presidential election that I firmly believe will define whether we continue to live our lives as a free people or cease to enjoy the blessings of an almighty God that bestowed upon America the rights we've had since our forefathers established our republic.

Your Views: All of us should willingly pay local school tax

Taxes - we all pay them and sometimes complain about them. However, lest we forget that unless we each want our own ambulance and fire truck in our driveway, plus an EMT or two, taxes save us money. We support each other by all contributing to the common pot for the things we may not use every day but keep our community vibrant and thriving: Roads, parks, boat launches and schools.

Your Views: Anti-abortion views eventually can lead to unwanted children

Margaret Wolf seems to have put a lot of thinking into why she thinks women should not have abortions (Your Views, Oct. 18).

Your Views: Charter school plan takes action to address school shortcomings

The only thing we know for certain is that K-12 education in America is in deep trouble and dramatic changes are needed. We have spent the last 40 years trying to feel good by deluding ourselves into thinking preschool focus will solve our problems.

Your Views: Selma’s lesson still rings true: We should make our voices heard

Several weeks ago, we looked back at the historic march that began in Selma, Ala., in March 1965. This event was a painful time in our nation's history, but a time that we can all gather great strength from.

Your Views: A baker’s dozen buzzwords we ought to banish

Many people are like sheep concerning buzzwords. One participates and the rest follow the herd. Eventually, a buzzword becomes annoying, trite and ready for banishment.

Your Views: Future sales tax votes should be on fall ballots

The front page headline Sunday in The Times read "Where have all the voters gone?" Let's go back just a few months to the fall of 2014 when midterm elections were in the news. Recall The Times writing about how politicians in Hall County were concerned that SPLOST VII would not be passed by voters for a seventh time if SPLOST VII was placed on the November 2014 ballot?

Your Views: Bullying is hurtful at any age, even when aimed at principal

I read with concern the two recent items in The Times regarding alleged bullying at Myers Elementary (March 7 article, March 19 letter to the editor). Quite honestly, I was confused; I thought perhaps I had read the name of the school incorrectly, and even more confused when I read the principal involved in the articles. I started shaking my head, thinking,"Are you kidding me? Are they really accusing Beth Hudgins of dealing improperly with a situation so potentially hurtful?"

I am writing in response to the article, "Bullying incidents test school policy in Hall County, Gainesville" of March 7. It saddened me to read such negative words about Beth Hudgins.

Your Views: America should take care of its own needy first

I recently read in The Times, and I was not really surprised, what sweet idea America has now: Tens of thousands of immigrant children are allowed here, in the good old u.s.a. via Florida.

Your Views: GOP senators need to stop spewing hate

Mary Drummer is right on about Georgia's senators being wrong to have sent a letter to Iran. They are certainly overstepping their place and proving once again that they, of the Republican party, are incapable of sensibly leading this country's government.

Your Views: Principal at Myers Elementary is qualified to keep bullying incidents in check

I am writing in response to the article from March 7, "Bullying incidents test school policy in Hall County, Gainesville." As a parent of a child in elementary school, the subject is concerning to me. However, I am not worried at all because my child goes to Myers Elementary School. I'm not worried because I have 100 percent faith in my son's teacher and his principal to do the right thing for my child, and those in his class.

Your Views: Housing market still is pointed upward this year in Hall County

There have been some recent headlines about home sales falling. Those headlines are misleading. Housing sales look different from one month to another and from one quarter to another.

Your Views: Series on foster child care opened eyes to a serious issue

On more than one occasion, I have taken pen to paper to offer my criticism of your newspaper. It is expected that we subscribers will do that. When a newspaper does something that I feel is commendable, I will also offer my praise as well as extending my subscription another quarter.
