Your Views: Take the time to make sure kids drive safely

Those first few years when our sons and daughters receive their drivers license can be a tense and prayerful time for parents every time they drive. We always hope they'll drive safely and come home alive, along with their friends.

Your Views: Medical center, insurance provider need to reach deal or patients lose

Like most North Georgians, I take pride and comfort in the excellence of Gainesville's hospital and doctors. And as part of a family covered by UnitedHealthCare are insurance, I enjoyed the security of knowing that the coverage we'd purchased would be there for us if the need arose.

Your Views: We need positive solutions, not more negative rhetoric

I found an answer to all the negative political ads:

Your Views: Support military budget cuts and bring American troops home

John Stossel's article in the Aug. 13 Times about wars being a waste is right on target, but he makes one premise which I find inexplicable. He points out that Mitt Romney is vehemently against the $500 billion cuts to the military proposed by President Barack Obama, and then states that defense is an area where he thinks the Democrats could make cuts in view of America's rapid path toward default, but also that Democrats "rarely cut anything."

Your Views: Voters, take time to do your duty and cast a ballot

I am writing not in support of any one candidate, but to urge every registered voter in Hall County to go to the polls and vote in the upcoming runoff and again in November.

Your Views: A return to respect, like in the ‘old days,’ is within our grasp

At 28 years old, use of the term "the old days" might imply to some that I'm referring to the early 2000s or the 1990s. I suppose they would be permitted to make that assumption according to my age.

Your Views: Voters must make right decision to get us out of debt

This coming November has got to be the most important election this nation has ever had.

Your Views: Is another traffic study needed?

I am puzzled that we, the taxpayers, are going to fork out $125,000 to complete a Gainesville and Hall County traffic study when one would think that the traffic studies completed prior the T-SPLOST referendum would be sufficient.

Your Views: Allowing young immigrants to stay in US is asking for trouble

America, are you stupid? Maybe I misunderstood, but I heard that this country is going to allow young illegal immigrants to stay here legally. Why don't you just welcome all those many breeds of terrorists to come here, too?

Your Views: Post office’s woes linked to future health care benefits

In 1788, Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution was ratified, which requires the federal government to establish post offices and post roads. As envisioned by Benjamin Franklin, the post office bound the new nation together with a presence in every community.

Your Views: Kindness of ‘little big man’ counters world of bad news

I am so tired of picking up the paper or turning on the TV to find no good news, just violence, murder, death and stealing. I just hope each time to hear something good. Please forgive me for "tooting my on horn" but I've learned if you don't, nobody else will.

Your Views: Columnist reveals faith in government, not US Constitution

William McKenzie's article in Thursday's Times, "Moderates must outwork the far right," is a classic and should be read and studied by every conservative voter.

Your Views: Voters have spoken; leaders now must alter road sales tax

The voters have spoken and the T-SPLOST was defeated by a vote count of 63 percent against on a statewide level.

Your Views: Ga. now must focus on valid road projects

The voters of Georgia should be commended for the overwhelming vote against the transportation sales tax Tuesday. This would have been a gigantic tax increase on all Georgians and would do little to alleviate traffic problems and congestion in the metro area. It was a bipartisan effort of strange bedfellows: conservatives, liberals, blacks, whites, Democrats and Republicans.

Your Views: Politicians, hear our voices loudly from Tuesday’s primary

Wow, what a wake-up call Tuesday. You see politicians, we the people do not believe your empty promises of the past and we certainly will not believe your full-of-bologna promises for your re-election.

Your Views: Violence in ER is directly linked to a lack of mental health care

In response to Sunday's story in The Times, "Panel studying violence against emergency room workers:" We will never be able to properly address emergency department violence in America until we take a hard look at our ongoing mental health care crisis. This has led to violence in some cases by frustrated and distressed psychiatric patients who are held in emergency departments for long periods of time because there are very few options for long-term care.

Your Views: Look for Clinton, Christie in 2016
