Your Views: Those pushing a racial agenda want US to fail

The events surrounding the death of Trayvon Martin and the trial of George Zimmerman have led me to a couple of conclusions that I think warrant some serious consideration by all Americans.

Your Views: Were police ignoring crime while helping locked-out gentleman?

The Joe B. Sartain Jr. letter printed July 17 was interesting but confusing to me concerning action of police that pleased Mr. Sartain.

Your Views: Profiling is a moot point when guilt can be determined

As a white male in a white culture, it is difficult, if not impossible, to understand what it feels like to experience profiling.

Your Views: Legal climate in Ga. is not halting growth

As members of both the Hall and Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, we are proud to support and work with our local business leaders to foster a thriving economic network in and around the Gainesville area. Simply put, we know that the work of our local chambers is of paramount importance, and that businesses continue to flock to our area because of its invaluable resources.

Your Views: Gainesville police respond quickly to a resident in need

On July 6, I let my wife out of my pickup truck at a local restaurant. The sky had opened up, and the rainfall was tremendous. I then drove to a parking space, opened the door and my umbrella, locked the door and stepped out.

Your Views: Hall fire crews, medical center came to rescue of injured visitor

I want to thank the Hall County Fire Department for carrying me out of Chicopee Woods on July 10. I was working with a crew from the Elachee Nature Science Center in the deep woods on a project. I was unable to get out on my own due to my injuries and was so grateful to see these guys.

Your Views: Our patriotic past should be celebrated

On Thursday, July 4, we had planned on attending a cookout and watching the fireworks. It was rained out. As a result, I watched the movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy," starring Jimmy Cagney.

Your Views: Brewer’s lifetime of dedicated service rises above one incident

I regret not having written this sooner in praise of Jim "Bimbo" Brewer, former witness advocate for Hall County Sheriff's Office. He's been splashed on front page again rehashing a small incident, albeit a momentary lack of judgment call, an instant decision to help someone while off duty. After his many years of dedicated service with an unblemished record, he was in his home, off duty, yet having to make an instant decision to go to the aid of folks needing him.

Your Views: Are we really that concerned about privacy anymore?

Right now we have a golden opportunity that we are rarely afforded by our gridlocked political system: A true, full, broad and deep national debate on what we want as far as a balance of security, privacy and convenience.

Your Views: Progress leads to pain for residents along Friendship

It has been a while since my emotions have been so stirred up I felt the need to write a letter. I get a sick feeling in my stomach the first five minutes of my morning commute and the last five minutes of my afternoon commute home. It's like the feeling I get when I drive through an area that has been swept by a tornado. In fact, for a while what I was seeing reminded me of just that. What I have been seeing is not an act of God but premeditated destruction, plain and simple. Homes and ...

Your Views: Domestic spying shows Obama has brought no change

In his recent column on NSA leaker Ed Snowden, Jonah Goldberg called him a fool for the love of an idea. I wonder what idea Goldberg intended? Could it be the idea that our government should be true to the wishes of the electorate? Surely that's a foolish thought, right? Only fools would think their vote matters, and only fools would believe the constitutional will of the majority should be a binding command on the government.

Your Views: Collins did not include public input in Camp Merrill decision

U.S. Rep. Doug Collins of the 9th District has explained his rationale for transferring Camp Merrill to the Army. But he does not explain why he thinks that this issue does not deserve proper public notice and review. He is violating the basic democratic principles he was elected to uphold.
