Your Views: A ‘thank you’ for return of engagement ring

Thank you to the person who found and returned my 48-year-old lost engagement ring to an employee of Northeast Diagnostic Clinic. I lost it during a visit to the clinic on April 15. After discovering the ring was missing, my first thought was that the ring fell off when I washed and dried my hands in the restroom. I collected the trash bags in each of the restrooms I had visited and reported my loss to the very caring receptionist.

Your Views: US can’t suspend Constitution to pursue terrorists

Ominous dark clouds can be seen approaching on the horizon as America deals with the latest acts of terrorism conducted in our land. If the best we can do is to deny basic inalienable rights that were granted to us by our creator, what have we become?

Your Views: NRA’s influence led to defeat of sensible gun bill in Senate

Due to coverage of the tragic act of terrorism last week in Boston, the failure of the U.S. Senate to pass background check legislation was not widely reported by the news media. As is usually the case, the National Rifle Association holds enough power over our elected officials with their financial resources to defeat them in the next election if they do not vote as the NRA dictates.

Your Views: Job performance motivated some to cheat on tests

The viewpoint of Professor Lynn Stout of Cornell Law School in Sunday's Times is that the cheating scandal of the Atlanta Public Schools reveals "the dark side of offering incentives." She is really saying that test scores should not be used to measure a teacher's performance.

Your Views: Commissioners have no valid reason to kill Red Rabbit

The Hall County commission and others want to back out of a decadelong relationship with the Red Rabbit, the city of Gainesville, and public transportation uses. Why?

Your Views: Tornado took no lives, a true blessing despite heavy damage

As I write this, I'm looking out my window at the most horrendous amount of damage I have ever witnessed in my 70 years of life. On the night of April 11, we experienced the awesome power of a tornado. I knew something was about to happen; our dogs sensed something. In the period of about 90 seconds, I heard something comparable to a 747 passing over the top of our home.

Your Views: Cherokee Bluffs name for new park should be chiseled in stone

Because my family had other commitments April 15, we didn't get to the public meeting at Mulbury Park concerning Cherokee Bluffs. I wish we could have been there.

Your Views: Mayors, most Americans favor background checks for gun purchases

In response to Fred Dissen's letter Tuesday ("Pro-gun TV ads cross the line"): So you are pro-gun. You are mistaken about the "out-of-state-funded TV gun commercials" attacking our Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson. The ads are to show that people who support the Second Amendment also support stronger gun control and ask that they contact these senators to express their views.

Your Views: Legislators failed to protect us by expanding gun rights

Now that our state legislators have let the 2013 session end without managing to agree on vital corrections in our gun laws, I hope they can sleep at night after the next campus robbery turns into a murder or an entire church congregation is similarly victimized.

Your Views: Columnists' bashing of Graham is arrogant

I couldn't help but respond to Joan King's bashing of Dr. Billy Graham. She is right to call herself "arrogant." Evidently she doesn't understand God's word, or doesn't read the word of God.

Your Views: Pro-gun TV ads cross the line

I have always been pro-gun, but, those out-of-state-funded TV gun commercials attacking Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isaakson have altered my thinking about the need for Congress to control people's access to weapons.

Your Views: Lobbyists’ gifts to lawmakers are all but bribes

According to Shakespeare's Juliet, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Likewise, a bribe by any other name still stinks like a pigpen.
