Your Views: Gun control ideas go against reality and Constitution

In recent days, there have been two letter writers who have expressed that the Second Amendment shouldn't be more important than the others and that semi-auto weapons and high capacity magazines should be banned.

Your Views: Changing name of Friendship Road ignores its history

I am writing in reference to Monday's article about the idea of anyone wanting to change the name of Friendship Road. This road has history, with the Friendship Baptist Church being No. 1.

Why are some constitutional amendments more important than others?

Your Views: Ban large-magazine weapons, then buy them for law officers

It is my hope that Congress will pass a law banning the civilian possession of any firearm that fires more than one bullet with one squeeze of the trigger. I hope this is what they mean when they talk about banning assault rifles. I do not need a gun that fires 900 bullets a minute to protect my home.

Your Views: Falcons have reason to be proud

We almost won the NFC Championship. That's not bad news. That's good news. Look, name another team with a better season record. You can't win them all. Our team is great with great things to come.

Your Views: Proper safety precautions can prevent deadly building fires

Remember Smokey the Bear's slogan, "Only you can prevent forest fires!" In the wake of a host of preventable building fires, including in the Greater Atlanta area, a school fire and a house fire which took four lives from the same family due to a surviving child having played with a lighter, it is very appropriate to add, "Only you can prevent building fires."

Your Views: Stranger’s kindness was appreciated

On Jan. 15, my cousins and I were having lunch. After finishing our meal, the waitress handed us our bill. As we began to pay, she said the bill had been paid by the gentleman sitting at the table next to us. We were overwhelmed, and our copy of the bill had a note from the gentleman that said "God Bless You."

Your Views: Background checks won’t mean much to someone breaking law

While the shootings in the school in Connecticut were a terrible catastrophe, the liberal news media is silent on the thousands of abortions preformed every year in this country. I guess those babies don't count.

Your Views: US citizens never could fully arm themselves against government forces

Reading letters on gun control published after the Sandy Hook school shooting, it appears conservatives blame that event on everything but guns. Some insist the Sandy Hook shooting can be attributed directly to legalized abortion, the elimination of prayer in school and teaching the theory of evolution as science. Then they speak out against liberals who would dare exploit this tragedy in order to serve a political agenda. How ironic.

Your Views: Only authoritarian governments want to disarm the populace

I wasn't going to weigh in on this one, but I can't help myself. There are too many reasonable people who are buying into the liberal lexicon.

Your Views: Americans must conquer fears, demand better

I often find myself wondering how the next chapter of our nation's history will read. Will it tell of a prosperous society, where the citizens embraced freedom? Or will it read like the final chapters of Gibbon's "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire?" I pray the former but am given to the latter at the moment.

Your Views: Selma’s lesson still rings true: We should make our voices heard

Several weeks ago, we looked back at the historic march that began in Selma, Ala., in March 1965. This event was a painful time in our nation's history, but a time that we can all gather great strength from.

Your Views: Future sales tax votes should be on fall ballots

The front page headline Sunday in The Times read "Where have all the voters gone?" Let's go back just a few months to the fall of 2014 when midterm elections were in the news. Recall The Times writing about how politicians in Hall County were concerned that SPLOST VII would not be passed by voters for a seventh time if SPLOST VII was placed on the November 2014 ballot?

Your Views: Bullying is hurtful at any age, even when aimed at principal

I read with concern the two recent items in The Times regarding alleged bullying at Myers Elementary (March 7 article, March 19 letter to the editor). Quite honestly, I was confused; I thought perhaps I had read the name of the school incorrectly, and even more confused when I read the principal involved in the articles. I started shaking my head, thinking,"Are you kidding me? Are they really accusing Beth Hudgins of dealing improperly with a situation so potentially hurtful?"

Your Views: GOP senators need to stop spewing hate

Mary Drummer is right on about Georgia's senators being wrong to have sent a letter to Iran. They are certainly overstepping their place and proving once again that they, of the Republican party, are incapable of sensibly leading this country's government.

Your Views: Principal at Myers Elementary is qualified to keep bullying incidents in check

I am writing in response to the article from March 7, "Bullying incidents test school policy in Hall County, Gainesville." As a parent of a child in elementary school, the subject is concerning to me. However, I am not worried at all because my child goes to Myers Elementary School. I'm not worried because I have 100 percent faith in my son's teacher and his principal to do the right thing for my child, and those in his class.
