Your Views: Hall fire crews, medical center came to rescue of injured visitor

I want to thank the Hall County Fire Department for carrying me out of Chicopee Woods on July 10. I was working with a crew from the Elachee Nature Science Center in the deep woods on a project. I was unable to get out on my own due to my injuries and was so grateful to see these guys.

Your Views: Our patriotic past should be celebrated

On Thursday, July 4, we had planned on attending a cookout and watching the fireworks. It was rained out. As a result, I watched the movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy," starring Jimmy Cagney.

Your Views: Brewer’s lifetime of dedicated service rises above one incident

I regret not having written this sooner in praise of Jim "Bimbo" Brewer, former witness advocate for Hall County Sheriff's Office. He's been splashed on front page again rehashing a small incident, albeit a momentary lack of judgment call, an instant decision to help someone while off duty. After his many years of dedicated service with an unblemished record, he was in his home, off duty, yet having to make an instant decision to go to the aid of folks needing him.

Your Views: Are we really that concerned about privacy anymore?

Right now we have a golden opportunity that we are rarely afforded by our gridlocked political system: A true, full, broad and deep national debate on what we want as far as a balance of security, privacy and convenience.

Your Views: Progress leads to pain for residents along Friendship

It has been a while since my emotions have been so stirred up I felt the need to write a letter. I get a sick feeling in my stomach the first five minutes of my morning commute and the last five minutes of my afternoon commute home. It's like the feeling I get when I drive through an area that has been swept by a tornado. In fact, for a while what I was seeing reminded me of just that. What I have been seeing is not an act of God but premeditated destruction, plain and simple. Homes and ...

My condolences go out to the Goldware family, whose 14-year-old was killed and two infants injured in a wreck on Interstate 75. May God comfort you in this time of grief.

Your Views: Domestic spying shows Obama has brought no change

In his recent column on NSA leaker Ed Snowden, Jonah Goldberg called him a fool for the love of an idea. I wonder what idea Goldberg intended? Could it be the idea that our government should be true to the wishes of the electorate? Surely that's a foolish thought, right? Only fools would think their vote matters, and only fools would believe the constitutional will of the majority should be a binding command on the government.

Your Views: Collins did not include public input in Camp Merrill decision

U.S. Rep. Doug Collins of the 9th District has explained his rationale for transferring Camp Merrill to the Army. But he does not explain why he thinks that this issue does not deserve proper public notice and review. He is violating the basic democratic principles he was elected to uphold.

Your Views: Americans must celebrate freedom with moral truths

True patriotism is a Christian virtue, a Christian principle. It involves a devoted love, support and defense of one's country. It is a national loyalty.

Your Views: Limited library hours a hassle

I went to the library today and found it did not open until noon. I waited over an hour for it to open; when it did, there was a long line of people waiting to get in. In the parking lot were several cars of employees working.

Your Views: One page for immigration bill is plenty

The comprehensive new immigration bill needs to be ONE page, not 800 or 1,000 or 1,200 pages of graft, pork, union payoffs and big government made bigger. It should be ONE page with ONE sentence: Enforce all immigration laws already enacted by the U.S. Congress.
