Matt Lisk led the Piedmont College (11-3) by pitching eight strong innings, allowing no earned runs and just three hits while striking out six hitters in a 3-1 win against Guilford on Wednesday. Senior Ed Cook, fresh off receiving the Great South Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week award, came in for his fourth save of the season for Piedmont College.

Carnes named Southeast Player of the Year

North Georgia College & State University women's basketball player Jaymee Carnes was named Division II Southeast Region Player of the Year. The Gainesville High grad received the honor just a week after being named the 2012 Peach Belt Player of the Year. Carnes is the first Lady Saints player to be named the Daktronics Southeast Region Player of the Year. The sophomore led the nation in scoring averaging 25.0 points per game. She finished with 624 points scored, which is the 10th highest scoring total in league history.

Piedmont drops 10-8 slugfest

The Piedmont College baseball team lost 10-8 against visiting Montclair State University Monday night at Loudermilk Field. The Lions' (9-3) offense broke out of a two-game slump, but the Red Hawks' bats were even hotter in a game that featured 21 hits.

North Georgia rifle team defends championship

The North Georgia College & State University rifle team defended its team rifle championship, winning by more than 62 targets over a team of drill sergeants from Fort Benning at the Fort Benning Maneuver Center of Excellence's (MCOE) Rifle Championships on Feb. 22-24. The 18 members of the North Georgia Combat Shooting Team were among 12 teams and 85 individual participants competing.

Piedmont men's lacrosse wins first ever home match

The Piedmont College lacrosse team won 24-2 in its first-ever home match against Alma College on Wednesday in Demorest. The Lions (2-1) opened the season with a loss at Randolph College, then rebounded for the program's first win over Rhodes College.

Riden part of winning relay squad from Emmanuel College

Flowery Branch High graduate Maurice Riden was part of the Emmanuel College 3200-meter relay team that earned National Christian College Athletic Association honors by winning the event with a time of 7-minutes, 56.15 seconds at the championship meet in Cedarville, Ohio.
