North Georgia's Dickie and McMillan honored by Peach Belt Conference

University of North Georgia softball players Melissa Dickie and Kim McMillan have weekly awards from the Peach Belt Conference on Monday. Buford grad Dickie was named the conference Pitcher of the Week while McMillan was named the Player of the Week.

The ninth-ranked University of North Georgia softball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday to move into a tie for first-place with No. 4 Armstrong Atlantic State University in the Peach Belt Conference standings. The Lady Saints swept Lander University 2-1 and 4-3 in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium in Dahlonega.

North Georgia softball sweeps doubleheader

The ninth-ranked University of North Georgia softball team swept both games of its Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against the University of South Carolina-Aiken on Thursday in Dahlonega. The Saints took the first game 5-2 before claiming Game 2 9-1 in five innings.

Local college notebook: Gainesville grad honored by Peach Belt Conference

Gainesville grad and current University of North Georgia junior Jaymee Carnes, the 2012 Daktronics National Player of the Year, was named to the Peach Belt Conference 2013 Women's All-Conference first team, the league announced Tuesday. Mimi Hill earned second-team honors and sophomore Stephanie Huffman earned third-team recognition.
