Young Harris hires Elkins as new tennis coach

Barrett Elkins was hired as the men's tennis coach at Young Harris College on Tuesday. Elkins spent nearly four years as the head men's and women's tennis and head men's and women's golf coach at Ave Maria University located in Ave Maria, Fla. He started the tennis program from scratch. Elkins graduated from the Southern Catholic College, where he initiated the college's first club tennis program.

North Georgia women defeat Montevallo, 82-76

The last time the University of North Georgia saw the University of Montevallo, the Falcons were escaping Memorial Hall Gymnasium with a narrow win. The second time around, the Saints (8-11, 6-6 Peach Belt Conference) were able to enact revenge on the Falcons (13-9, 8-5 PBC) with an 82-76 road victory on Saturday inside Bank Trust Arena.

With a jumper at the 13:09 mark, Gainesville grad Jaymee Carnes eclipsed the 1,000 career points mark en route to a 30-point performance Thursday night to lead three other Saints in double figures, but it was not enough as the University of North Georgia women's basketball team fell 92-88 on the road to Columbus State University in a pivotal Peach Belt Conference West Division matchup.

University of North Georgia secures Division II softball national championship

OKLAHOMA CITY - The University of North Georgia softball team used timely hitting, combined with a strong performance in the circle by NFCA National Pitcher of the Year Courtney Poole, to win the school's first-ever national championship with a 5-0 victory over Dixie State on Monday in the NCAA Division II softball national title game.

North Georgia softball team tops Georgia College 2-0, advances to D-II College World Series

University of North Georgia junior ace Courtney Poole tossed a three-hit shutout and sophomore catcher Jessica Finch provided the game-winning two-run single in the first inning to help beat No. 8 Georgia College, 2-0 in the Division II Southeast Super Regional on Saturday in Dahlonega. With the win, the Nighthawks (49-7) advance to its fourth Division II College World Series.
