Brenau basketball coach steps down

Brenau University basketball coach Gary Bays has resigned his position as head coach of the Brenau University Golden Tigers basketball team after five years with the program. Bays started the program in 2006 and coached the team through its first five seasons. He compiled an overall record of 73-79 and 32-51 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. Under his direction, the team qualified for the postseason conference tournament in each of their last three years.

Led by 30 points from Lauren Smith, the Young Harris women's basketball team used a last-minute lay-up to earn coach Brenda Paul her 450th career win by defeating Reinhardt 59-53 on Monday at the Brown Athletic Center. Lindsey Hammontree (six points) made a lay-up with 46 seconds left to put Young Harris ahead for good.

North Georgia baseball up to No. 8 in latest poll

North Georgia jumped 14 spots to No. 8 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division-II Top 30 Poll after sweeping Stillman College over the weekend. It was the Saints' second straight three-game sweep of the year as the team improved to 6-0.
