Lady Saints sweep doubleheader

The fourth-ranked North Georgia College & State University softball team opened Peach Belt Conference play Thursday by sweeping a doubleheader with Flagler College, 8-1, 6-1, at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium in Dahlonega.

North Georgia (26-6, 2-0 PCB) starter Sarah Phillips (11-3) earned the win on the mound, while giving up only one hit in Game 1. Jessica Coan (11-3) allowed two hits and one run, while walking three and striking out nine to earn the win in Game 2.

University of North Georgia secures Division II softball national championship

OKLAHOMA CITY - The University of North Georgia softball team used timely hitting, combined with a strong performance in the circle by NFCA National Pitcher of the Year Courtney Poole, to win the school's first-ever national championship with a 5-0 victory over Dixie State on Monday in the NCAA Division II softball national title game.

University of North Georgia junior ace Courtney Poole tossed a three-hit shutout and sophomore catcher Jessica Finch provided the game-winning two-run single in the first inning to help beat No. 8 Georgia College, 2-0 in the Division II Southeast Super Regional on Saturday in Dahlonega.
