The University of North Georgia softball team has climbed eight spots from to fourth in the first National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll of the season following an 11-2 start. Valdosta State University, the 2012 NCAA Division II national champion, remained atop the standings 14 first-place votes thanks to a 9-1 record.

University of North Georgia secures Division II softball national championship

OKLAHOMA CITY - The University of North Georgia softball team used timely hitting, combined with a strong performance in the circle by NFCA National Pitcher of the Year Courtney Poole, to win the school's first-ever national championship with a 5-0 victory over Dixie State on Monday in the NCAA Division II softball national title game.

North Georgia softball team tops Georgia College 2-0, advances to D-II College World Series

University of North Georgia junior ace Courtney Poole tossed a three-hit shutout and sophomore catcher Jessica Finch provided the game-winning two-run single in the first inning to help beat No. 8 Georgia College, 2-0 in the Division II Southeast Super Regional on Saturday in Dahlonega. With the win, the Nighthawks (49-7) advance to its fourth Division II College World Series.
