Lanier soccer holding registration

The Lanier Soccer Association will hold walk-up registration for the Spring 2011 recreation soccer season from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Jan. 8 and Jan. 15 and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex off of Monroe Drive.

Local lifters fare well at championship meet

Seven weightlifters from the Team Georgia program qualified and competed at the American Open Weightlifting Championship over the weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio. The American Open is the second biggest championship in the country and is used as a qualifier for several International Championships. A total of 238 athletes competed for medals. The five women who competed from Team Georgia are all Junior or School Age division competitors.

IronDawgs powerlifting team takes narrow victory

New world records galore went up in a clash of champions from different associations at the Body By George Southern Powerlifting Federation Mini Meet in Loganville on Saturday. With the win, the Georgia IronDawgs hoisted another team trophy.

Brogdon leads TCU women's rifle team to upset

Mattie Brogdon, a Lumpkin County High graduate and current member of the second-ranked Texas Christian University women's rifle team, fired a 592 to tie for first place in the air rifle competition Sunday as the Horned Frogs defeated No. 1 West Virginia 4,675 to 4,663.
