Local golf: Pair of teams tie for 1st at Chicopee Woods

Greg Lee, Jeff Frasier, Gayle Gibson, Roger Stapp and Karl Stiegle, Geoff Archibald, Terry McFarland and Vince Jonte' (21 under par) tied for first place for team results in Wednesday's Dogfight at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. Chris Jones, Paul Gibson, Terry Clegg, Darrel Pinner (19 under par) finished in third place.

Jack Prather accomplished one of the rarer golfing feats by shooting lower than his age (76) with a 75 for the Chattahoochee Men's Golf Association Wednesday as they played a three best ball, aggregated net strokes at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Joe Roberts, Tom Sexton, Tommy Lowery, and Cleve Brown took first place in the Luna's Tuesday golf group event at the Chattahoochee Golf Course this week. Second place went to the team of Jerry Johns, Richard Strickland, Bud Black, and Johnny Nix. Third place went to the team of Gene Weschler, Nelson Wright, Doug Van, and Stan Davidson Jr. Closest to the pin winners were Johns (Nos. 3 and 5), Roberts (No. 12) and Strickland (No. 17).

Gainesville's Ralston placed second in junior event at Pinehurst

Gainesville's Spencer Ralston placed second in the 12-14 year old age group Dec. 29 at the two-day, 36-hole Donald Ross Junior Golf Championship in Pinehurst, N.C. After carding a 5-over par (145) through two rounds and in a three-way tie for the top spot, he finished with a par on the playoff hole to take second. On the first day, Ralston shot a 2-over (72) and rounded out the tournament with a 73 during the final round.
